Same Day Crowns Q & A

What are same-day crowns?

Crowns are tooth-shaped caps that fit over the visible portion of your tooth to restore its shape, size, and color. These restorative treatments also protect weak teeth from further damage and decay.

It typically takes two visits to plan and place traditional dental crowns. Your dentist prepares your tooth at your first visit and places the crown at your second appointment a few weeks later.

With CEREC same-day crowns, Nunn Family Dentistry takes digital impressions of your tooth with a state-of-the-art CEREC scanner and uses an onsite milling machine to create your custom crown. This way, they can place your crown in a single visit.

Who needs same-day crowns?

Same-day crowns might be right for you if you have one or more of the following dental concerns:

  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Severe tooth discoloration
  • Teeth worn from grinding
  • Weak teeth
  • Large fillings
  • Tooth decay
  • Chipped teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Poor bite

If you’re unhappy with the way your teeth look, feel, or function, waiting several weeks in between dental visits may not be an option for you. Since CEREC crowns restore your smile in just one visit, you never have to be without fully functional teeth.

What is the process like for same-day crowns?

When you arrive for your crown at Nunn Family Dentistry, your dentist performs an exam and takes X-rays of your mouth before preparing your tooth. Preparing your tooth involves filing and reshaping the tooth so your crown blends in perfectly with the rest of your teeth.

Next, your dentist uses the CEREC scanner to take highly accurate digital impressions of your tooth. The CEREC software uses the digital impressions to create a virtual model of your crown before sending the image to an onsite milling machine.

The milling machine creates your new custom crown within minutes, so your dentist can place it right away. This new crown should fit perfectly over your prepared tooth. Once your dentist makes any necessary adjustments for fit and comfort, they cement the crown in place.

CEREC same-day crowns save you time and visits to the office. To learn more about this innovative technology, call Nunn Family Dentistry or schedule an appointment online today.
